Please see information below on research studies with a focus in our specialty area. Feel free to share with those that might be interested. Thanks for all you do to support on-going research in our field.
If you are involved in a research project that focuses on individuals who stutter, clutter, or those with other fluency disorders, feel free to reach out to the Board. We are happy to spread the word.
Many thanks!

I wanted to share an opportunity from researchers who stutter affiliated with the University of Iowa who are inviting adults who stutter to take part in a confidential online survey about their experiences with stuttering.
Past research suggests that for some people, stuttering can feel overwhelming and may carry lasting emotional and social effects. This new study aims to develop a tool to better understand these experiences and guide future support and resources for the stuttering community.
Participation involves completing a 30-minute online survey. Upon completion, participants can enter a drawing for $50 checks as a huge thanks for sharing their experiences. They will be running drawings every 10 surveys that are completed. Your responses will help ensure that the voices and perspectives of people who stutter are at the center of this work.
You can learn more by watching this brief video overview: https://youtu.be/kscqgEkY9Fs
If you're interested, you can submit an interest form here: http://bit.ly/4mmjOe7
If you have questions, please email Dr. Naomi Rodgers: csd-stutteringlab@uiowa.edu
Thank you for considering this opportunity to help advance research on stuttering.
2. Research opportunity for caregivers of children who stutter and have a speech sound disorder
Dear Board Certified Specialists in Stuttering, Cluttering, and Fluency Disorders,
My name is Katie Winters, and I am an assistant professor at the University of Cincinnati (UC) and Principal Investigator of UC's Stuttering and Social Cognition Lab. My team and I are recruiting for a new research study.
Would you be willing to share a paid research opportunity with caregivers/parents of your clients who are 1) ages 3–10 years, and, 2) are diagnosed both with stuttering and a speech sound/articulation disorder?
More information about this study is included below and in the recruitment flyer. Any of this information can be forwarded/shared with your clients. Thank you so much for your consideration, and please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email (winterki@ucmail.uc.edu) with any questions.
Study Purpose: The UC Stuttering and Social Cognition Lab is conducting an interview study with caregivers/parents of children who stutter and have a co-occurring speech sound or articulation disorder. In this study, we are conducting interviews with caregivers to learn about their perspectives navigating their child’s diagnoses and intervention.
Study Details: Each interview will last approximately 1–1.5 hours and can be conducted via Zoom or in person at UC. Participants will be compensated at a rate of $50/hour in the form of an Amazon gift card for their time. All information collected will be de-identified, meaning we will remove individual names (e.g., caregiver, child, specific SLP providers or businesses) and other identifying information from our data to protect anonymity.
Who can participate? We are seeking parents or caregivers of children who:
- Are between 3 and 10 years old.
- Have diagnoses of stuttering and either speech sound or articulation disorder.
- Have received speech therapy for both stuttering and speech/articulation disorder.
- Have had their caregiver/parent participate in their child's therapy within the past 6 months.
Who cannot participate? Unfortunately, we cannot include caregivers who:
- Have a child with additional co-occurring diagnoses that are not a speech/sound articulation disorder. For example, children who stutter and have autism, Cerebral palsy, or a language disorder are not eligible for this study.
- Do not speak, read, and write in English. Bilingual/multilingual families are welcome and encouraged to participate as long as caregivers can participate in an interview in English.
We would be very grateful if you could share this information and flyer with any families who meet our study description. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me (winterki@ucmail.uc.edu).
Thank you for your time and consideration.
All the best,
Katie Winters, PhD, CCC-SLP
3. Research study with adults who stutter (Binghamton University)
I am writing on behalf of my student. We are conducting a study with adults who stutter. We have approval from the Institutional Review Board at Binghamton University. The study is a simple survey. I am contacting you because you are a Board Certified Specialist, and might be able to share this study with past clients, current clients, or support group members in your community. The study is outlined below. If you can forward the message, I would appreciate it. Take care.
