Retired Members BCS-SCF Retired Member Status is awarded in recognition of previous specialty certification (or recognition prior to January 1, 2014) in stuttering, cluttering, and fluency disorders. Once an application has been submitted, it is reviewed, and acceptance is based upon the Standards for BCS-SCF Retired Member Status. Please see details below regarding application as well on page 22 of the Standards and Procedures Manual. Retired members are kept informed of current ABSCF happenings and included on all lists of BCS-SCF. Retired members are specialists that have obtained a significant milestone in terms of number of years of practice and contributions to our specialty area. Retired specialists are natural promoters of specialty certification. Retired members may mentor active candidates for specialty certification up to 3 years after gaining Retired Status with the ABSCF. The following standards need to be met in order to submit an application: 1) Applicant must be age 65 OR have held ASHA certification (CCC) for a total of 25 years. 2) Applicant must hold active specialty certification in stuttering, cluttering, and fluency disorders (BCS-SCF) at time of retired certification holder status application OR must have held the status of a certified (recognized) specialist at the time of becoming a lifetime member. 3) Must have held Specialty Recognition in Fluency and Fluency Disorders, Specialty Certification in Fluency and Fluency Disorders prior to 2023, and/or Specialty Certification in Stuttering, Cluttering, and Fluency Disorders for ten years (not necessarily consecutively). 4) In accordance with ASHA guidelines, retired members no longer retain a Certificate of Clinical Competence and cannot treat clients.
